Sinister Realm is the brainchild of ex-Pale Divine bass man John Gaffney, who composes all the music and lyrics. Originally intended as a recording project only with Pale Divine drummer Darin McCloskey, the band thankfully became a full fledged reality with the addition of a very talented and previously fairly unknown front line of Alex Kristof on vocals and John Kantner and Keith Patrick on guitar. After an impressive demo, they were snapped up by Shadow Kingdom Records…a strong addition to an already bruisingly heavy roster with incredible depth.
Sinister Realm walks the grey territory between epic traditional doom and straight up traditional metal that with their dark, occult lyrics could well be labeled a “sinister realm”.
One of the very best doom releases of this year.Expect to hear a tinge of Maiden-esque solos and riffs throughout.
